Wisdom of Scars.

We live in a world obsessed with perfect beauty—flawless skin, toned muscles, impeccable shapes. Entire industries thrive on this hunger for perfection. Scars and marks are frowned upon, often perceived as ugliness to be hidden. And so, we run to surgeries, conceal with heavy makeup, or hide behind masks, desperate to erase these evidences of imperfection.

But what if we chose to see our scars differently? Not as stains to be covered, but as symbols to be embraced. Why? Because they are markers of wisdom gained. Evidences of the unique stories marked into our beings that make us who we are.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve come to a sobering realization: because of the fickleness of human nature, most wisdom must be branded into us if it is to stay with us. Unfortunately, without pain and without scars, much of life’s wisdom slips away. But when etched into our bodies or our souls, it endures. It remains with us into old age, shaping who we are.

Think about it. Almost every scar you have carries a lesson. That burn that taught you to be careful around fire. The dent on your leg that reminds you play has limits. The heartbreak that taught you to look beyond a handsome face and a fat pocket. The unfair situation that drove you to lean fully on the Lord. Each scar whispers wisdom.

Now, this is not an invitation to chase pain for the sake of wisdom. If wisdom can be learned without scars, all the better. But when scars do come, let’s learn to see them differently. Not as triggers of shame, bitterness and resentment. But rather, as the painful, beautiful and eternal marks of wisdom.

Isaiah 53:5
[5]But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.

As always, I look forward to your thoughts.
